Changes in Military Technology


By the late medieval period, advancements in siege technology, including cannon and gunpowder, rendered motte-and-bailey castles like Rising obsolete.

Larger stone castles and fortified manor houses became preferred residences, emphasizing comfort and status over pure military utility.

Abandonment and Dismantling


Rising Castle gradually fell out of use and was likely abandoned by the 15th century. Over time, its timber and stone were quarried for local building projects.

Today, only earthworks and some masonry fragments remain at the site, testimony to its former grandeur.
